Amuse. I am not going to give you a lame introduction
telling you the definition that certain dictionaries obtain. Instead, I want to
give you the roots of this common term. The prefix a- is Greek, and it means not.
The root word, muse, means think.
Therefore, placing the two parts together, a basic definition is derived. To be
amused, means to not think. I have mistaken myself many times saying that I am
amused by various circumstances in my life. Maybe the amusement is not attained
because the situations are always funny, but because I have a pretty good sense
of irony. Finding this irony requires thought and connection. Thus, amusement
is probably not an appropriate word.
Rather, I try to find humor in everyday situations. Perhaps
circumstances are not always ideal for me, so I learn to deal with that
conflict. If you really think about it, sometimes the horrible inconveniences
that arise are absolutely hilarious! That is the point of this blog. I want to
show you that no matter how boring your life is, there is probably something happening
that is ironic and humorous in some way.
In order to write this blog, I need to accomplish two tasks.
One: continue to have unfortunate luck. I tend to have a pessimoptist point of
view: I hope for the best, but expect the worst. This allows me to look for
funny things in small incidents. Two: master the art of hyperbole and
metaphorical imagery. I think that I have this second task pretty well covered.
Slight exaggeration and ludicrous comparisons embellish comical writing, so to
keep my audiences entertained, I have to maintain this standard.
I hope that you enjoy my upcoming blogs. I truly appreciate
your time and commitment to the tales of my existence.
